Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 43— - NATIVE AMERICAN HOUSING ASSISTANCE AND SELF-DETERMINATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - AFFORDABLE HOUSING ACTIVITIES › Part Part A— - General Block Grant Program › § 4138
Police, the National Crime Information Center, police, and other law enforcement must give Indian tribes or tribally designated housing groups criminal-conviction records if asked. This is for job applicants and for adults applying for or living in housing paid for with grants under this law. Juvenile records are released only if state, tribal, or local law allows it. Tribes may use the records only to screen applicants, enforce leases, or start evictions. They must keep the records private and share them only with staff, authorized representatives, or housing owners who need them for their jobs. Records may be shown in court eviction cases if needed. The Secretary must make rules to protect use and privacy.
