The Secretary must make sure that, within 18 months after June 22, 2016, all appraisals and valuations of Indian trust property are handled by one office inside the Department, after talking with Indian tribes and tribal organizations. Within 1 year after June 22, 2016, the Secretary must publish in the Federal Register minimum qualifications for people who prepare those appraisals. If a tribe or beneficiary gives an appraisal that meets those qualifications and asks that it be used, the Secretary cannot require more review or approval, and the appraisal is final for the transaction.
