Title 28 › Part PART V— - PROCEDURE › Chapter CHAPTER 129— - MONEYS PAID INTO COURT › § 2045
The Director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, or someone the Director picks, may ask the Secretary of the Treasury to invest funds received under section 2041 in U.S. government debt securities (for example, Treasury bonds). The Director or their pick decides what maturities the funds need, and the Treasury Secretary sets the interest rate by looking at current market yields for similar U.S. obligations. The Director can let a court clerk named in section 610 use this authority and make the requests.
