§3001 Applicability of chapter

Title 28 › Part PART VI— - PARTICULAR PROCEEDINGS › Chapter CHAPTER 176— - FEDERAL DEBT COLLECTION PROCEDURE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER A— - DEFINITIONS AND GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 3001

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

Makes the chapter the only civil rules the United States uses to get a court judgment for a debt or to ask a court for relief on a debt claim before judgment. If another federal law gives different procedures for that kind of debt, those other rules apply where they conflict. The chapter does not cover amounts or claims that are not debts.
