The Board can hire the Federal Judicial Center’s Director and Deputy Director, set their jobs, and remove them at any time. It can ask any department, agency, or independent government body for information it needs. Those parts of the government must cooperate and, as allowed by law, give the information to the Chairman or to the Director if the Board has given the Director that authority. The Board can also hire and pay government or private groups or people for research and other services without following section 6101(b) to (d) of title 41, and it can give that contracting power to the Director to use.
