Title 29 › Chapter CHAPTER 18— - EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT INCOME SECURITY PROGRAM › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - PROTECTION OF EMPLOYEE BENEFIT RIGHTS › Subtitle Subtitle B— - Regulatory Provisions › Part part 5— - administration and enforcement › § 1146
The Secretary must keep a public outreach program going to help people save for retirement. The program must use clear ways to reach people, like public service announcements, meetings, easy-to-read educational materials, and a website. It must explain the different ways individuals and employers (including small employers) can save for retirement and give simple information on topics such as types of retirement savings, compound interest, why starting early matters, basic savings rules, being careful and diversifying investments, timing, and risks like outliving your savings. The Secretary must run a permanent website with at least a retirement-need calculator (based on a retirement goal as a percent of pre-retirement income); plain descriptions of common saving plans, limits, tax rules, and likely growth; employer guides and setup steps; copies of all federal educational materials; and links to other government and nonprofit resources. The Secretary must also work with other public and private groups on these outreach efforts.
