Title 29 › Chapter CHAPTER 32— - WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES › Part Part C— - Job Corps › § 3207
People enrolled in the Job Corps are mostly not treated as federal employees for work rules. That means rules about hours, pay, leave, unemployment, and federal employee benefits generally do not apply. Still, their service is counted as U.S. employment for federal taxes and Social Security. They are also treated as government employees for federal workers’ compensation and for federal liability claims. If the Job Corps causes damage that is not covered elsewhere, the Secretary can settle the claim for up to $1,500. Military members detailed to support the Job Corps are not counted toward service size limits or grade percentage caps.
