Title 29 › Chapter CHAPTER 15— - OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH › § 658
If an inspection finds a likely safety or health violation, the Secretary must quickly give the employer a written citation. The citation must say exactly what was wrong, point to the rule or regulation broken, and set a reasonable deadline to fix it. The Secretary can make rules to allow a notice instead of a citation for very minor issues that don’t affect safety. Copies of the citation must be posted where the violation happened, and no citation can be issued more than six months after the violation occurred.
