The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement may carry out studies, research, and demonstration projects about how to carry out and follow subchapter V. It may also give technical help to states for those purposes. Before approving any project, the OSMRE Director must consult the Director of the Bureau of Mines and get a determination that the Bureau is not already doing similar work. Studies related to subchapter IV must follow section 1231(c)(6) of this title.
