If a person on purpose and knowing it is wrong does any act that section 1461 forbids, they commit a crime. For the acts listed in paragraphs (1), (2), and (6) of section 1461, the fine can be up to $75,000 for each day the violation keeps going. For the acts in paragraphs (3), (4), (5), and (7), the person can be fined up to $75,000, jailed for up to six months, or both. If the offender is under U.S. jurisdiction and uses a dangerous weapon, injures a Federal officer or employee, or puts that person in fear of immediate injury, the penalty can be a fine up to $100,000, prison up to ten years, or both.
