Claims before May 10, 1872 keep the rules then in force. Claims after May 10, 1872 cannot be located until the vein is discovered within the claim, may be up to 1,500 feet along the vein, extend 25–300 feet on each side of the vein’s middle at the surface unless prior rights on May 10, 1872 require less, and have parallel end lines.
