Title 30 › Chapter CHAPTER 7— - LEASE OF MINERAL DEPOSITS WITHIN ACQUIRED LANDS › § 356
The Secretary can ask the heads of federal agencies that control certain public lands to send legal descriptions and any title papers, abstracts, or other documents about whether the United States owns mineral deposits on those lands. Those documents must be recorded quickly in the Bureau of Land Management in a form the Secretary finds suitable for keeping and using, and the originals are then returned to the agency. Agencies may instead send properly authenticated copies if they prefer.
