Title 30 › Chapter CHAPTER 20— - CONVEYANCES TO OCCUPANTS OF UNPATENTED MINING CLAIMS › § 706
Getting a conveyance under section 701 does not wipe out any liability to the United States for using the land without permission that existed on the date the conveyance was made. If an eligible person applied under this chapter for land in a mining claim, the United States will not seek trespass charges for occupying that claim for any time before the Secretary of the Interior finds the claim invalid or the claimant gives it up, unless the claim was made when the land was withdrawn or not open to claims. Only applicants who filed for conveyance under section 701 by June 30, 1971 get this protection.
