Summary

Starting on the date the MAPS Act of 2021 was enacted, any change to the rules for core-based statistical areas made under section 3504(e) of title 44 does not automatically apply to non-statistical uses by any domestic assistance program (including when a law or a regulation refers to those area delineations). Such a change will apply to those programs only if the agency decides it supports the program’s purposes and is in the public interest, and only after the agency adopts it through notice-and-comment rulemaking under section 553 of title 5. The definitions in section 4 of the MAPS Act of 2021 apply.
