When the Comptroller General issues a report that includes a recommendation to an agency head, the agency head must send a written statement saying what action was taken or is planned. An "agency" means a U.S. department, agency, or instrumentality (but not a mixed‑ownership Government corporation) and the D.C. government. The statement must go to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the congressional committees that oversee the program, and the Government Accountability Office within 181 days after the report. It must also be included for the Senate and House Appropriations Committees in the agency’s first funding request filed more than 180 days after the report.
