Title 32 › Chapter CHAPTER 3— - PERSONNEL › § 304
People who join the National Guard must sign an enlistment agreement and say an oath that notes the date, the state, and how many years they will serve. In the oath they promise to protect and uphold the U.S. and their State constitutions, be loyal to them, and obey lawful orders from the President, their Governor, and officers over them. They may swear or affirm and end with "So help me God." The oath can be given before a National Guard officer in that State, Territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia, or before any person that local law allows to administer enlistment oaths.
