Title 32 › Chapter CHAPTER 3— - PERSONNEL › § 308
The Secretary of the Army or the Secretary of the Air Force can give temporary federal officer status to someone who passed the exam in section 307(b) while they wait to be appointed as a reserve officer in that service. That temporary status can be revoked at any time, and if it is not taken away or made permanent when the person is appointed in the same grade, it ends one year after it begins. To qualify for the temporary status, the person must take an oath saying they will perform their federal duties as if they already were a reserve officer of the Army or Air Force.
