§2270 Subsurface drain systems research and development

Summary

If money is available, the Secretary must carry out research and development on using subsurface drain systems. The work must be done through the Director of the Engineer Research and Development Center and, when needed, the Secretary should consult other federal agencies. The research must look at using these drain systems to reduce flood risk and to reduce coastal storm risk.

Title 33, §2270

Navigation and Navigable Waters — Source: USLM XML via OLRC

Subject to the availability of appropriations, the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Engineer Research and Development Center and, where appropriate, in consultation with other Federal agencies, shall carry out research and development activities relating to the use of subsurface drain systems as—
(1)a flood risk-reduction measure; or
(2)a coastal storm risk-reduction measure.
