Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 36— - WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER V— - GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 2289a

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

Requires the Secretary to consider different ways to reduce flood and storm damage and to restore ecosystems when doing feasibility studies for those projects, if the non‑Federal sponsor agrees. Natural feature: formed by natural processes over time. Nature‑based feature: built by people to work with natural processes and reduce risk. It also requires looking at nonstructural and structural options. Must send a report to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee by February 1, 2020, and again 5 and 10 years later. Each report must describe the guidance and actions the Secretary and the Chief of Engineers used, assess costs, benefits, impacts, trade‑offs, and effectiveness of recommended coastal risk reduction measures, and explain any laws, funding, or regulatory barriers to using the full range of options.
