Any commissioned corps officer who is below the rank of rear admiral (lower half) must be retired or separated as described in 10 U.S.C. 1251(e) on the first day of the month after they turn 62. The President can delay retirement for officers serving in jobs above captain, but only until the first day of the month after they turn 64.
