Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 43— - NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION COMMISSIONED OFFICER CORPS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER V— - RIGHTS AND BENEFITS › § 3075
If an officer dies while on active duty, the Secretary can use Administration money to move the officer’s personal and household belongings to the officer’s official home of record. That move can include packing and unpacking. If the officer’s dependents ask, the Secretary can instead approve delivery to another place. Under rules the Secretary sets, Administration funds can also pay an officer back for food, clothing, medicine, and other supplies the officer gave to help people temporarily—either people in distress in remote areas or shipwrecked people the officer was taking care of.
