Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 45— - TSUNAMI WARNING AND EDUCATION › § 3205
The Administrator must run a tsunami research program with help from federal, state, tribal, and territorial governments, universities, and the law’s coordinating groups. The program will improve science and technology for finding tsunamis, making forecasts, sharing warnings, reducing harm, and making standards. The program must look at cost‑effective ways to cut tsunami damage, such as better near‑ and far‑field detection, a new generation of the DART (Deep‑ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis) array, sensors on telecom cables, real‑time monitoring, and using the Administration’s supercomputers for fast forecasts. It must work with the National Weather Service, study community warnings and evacuations, validate maps and models, and share results with the public and scientists.
