Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 55— - SAVE OUR SEAS 2.0 › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - ENHANCED GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT TO COMBAT MARINE DEBRIS › § 4261
The United States will work with foreign governments, local coastal communities, civil society groups, international organizations and banks, fishing industry leaders, and private companies to fight plastic pollution and marine debris. The goal is to learn more and raise public awareness about where plastic waste comes from and how it harms oceans, wildlife, people’s health, and local economies. The U.S. will help other countries build better systems to cut plastic waste, recover and recycle used materials, and stop waste from leaking into the environment. That includes promoting safe reusable products, new recycling technologies, and ways to pay for and run waste systems with public-private partnerships. It also means reducing lost or abandoned fishing gear, setting measurable reduction targets with plans and regular reports, improving preparedness for debris events, and sharing best practices.
