Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 12— - RIVER AND HARBOR IMPROVEMENTS GENERALLY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - ACQUISITION OF LAND AND MATERIALS › § 598a
When the Secretary needs to buy land or make a non-Federal party get land for a water resources project, they must follow the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 and try to take only the smallest land interest needed. They must first look at temporary easements or similar short-term rights that cut cost, speed up the project, and reduce fights with owners. The Secretary should also consider a State’s usual land-acquisition procedures if those procedures fit the project’s goals.
