The Secretary must improve forecasting on the Mississippi River by working with the Coast Guard's department, the U.S. Geological Survey, NOAA, and the National Weather Service. Actions include adding and upgrading automated river gages (and replacing manual ones as needed), building more sedimentation ranges, and installing extra automatic identification system (AIS) base stations at gage sites.
