The Assistant Attorney General must collect, publish, and share information about how criminal justice systems are doing. They must work with federal and state officials, courts, schools, research groups, local governments, and other countries on criminal justice matters. They must coordinate and give staff support to several justice offices and agencies, including the Bureau of Justice Assistance, National Institute of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Office for Victims of Crime, and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and they can put special conditions on grants and set priorities for formula grants. Each year the Assistant Attorney General must send a report to the President and to Congress by March 31.
