People who take, steal, misuse, or trick their way into money, property, or other assets from a grant, contract, or other aid under this chapter can be punished. This applies whether the money comes straight from or through others connected to the Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, National Institute of Justice, or Bureau of Justice Statistics, and also to anyone who hides or keeps such funds knowing they were taken and intending to use them. The penalty can be a fine up to $10,000, up to five years in prison, or both.
