The Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance must approve and pay benefits under subpart 1 of part L of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act when a public agency certifies who the eligible recipients are and that a public safety officer it employed (or an entity covered by section 1204(7)(B)) was killed or suffered a catastrophic injury causing permanent and total disability from a line-of-duty injury while working on prevention, investigation, rescue, or recovery related to a terrorist attack. The payment must be made no later than 30 days after the agency sends its certification. The terms "catastrophic injury," "public agency," and "public safety officer" have the same meanings given in section 1204 of that Act.
