Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle I— - Comprehensive Acts › Chapter CHAPTER 101— - JUSTICE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XI— - PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS’ DEATH BENEFITS › Part Part A— - Death Benefits › § 10288
The Bureau must quickly try to get the records and other information it needs to decide a benefit claim, including claims for financial help under part B. If the Bureau can’t decide a claim because needed information is missing from outside people or agencies and the claimant can’t easily get it, the Bureau may use investigative tools, like subpoenas, to get the information or speed up the decision. The Bureau may not drop the claim unless it has used those tools to try to obtain the needed records.
