The Attorney General must make sure grant money is fairly spread across States and between urban and rural areas. Each year a grant may be up to $100,000 for a State or local law enforcement agency or $250,000 for a law enforcement organization, and a grant may run for up to 5 years. Progress will be reviewed in years 2–5 and funding can be stopped after notice and a chance for reconsideration. No more than 5 percent of any grant may be used for administrative costs.
