Defines key words used in this subchapter. Armor vest is body armor at least Type I that passed the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) voluntary compliance testing program and meets NIJ Standard 0101.03 (or a later revision), or body armor that passed the NIJ program and meets NIJ Standard 0115.00 (or a later revision). Body armor is any item sold as personal protective covering meant to protect against gunfire, stabbing, or other physical harm. State means the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Unit of local government means a county, city, town, township, village, parish, borough, or similar local government below the State. Indian tribe has the same meaning as in section 5304(e) of title 25. Law enforcement officer means any officer, agent, or employee of a State, local government, or Indian tribe who is allowed by law or by a government agency to do or supervise preventing, finding, or investigating crimes, or to supervise sentenced criminal offenders.
