Defines key words used in this part of the law. First responder means a firefighter, police officer, paramedic, EMT, or other person (including paid or volunteer workers for recognized volunteer groups) who, while doing their job, answers fires, medical calls, hazardous-material incidents, or similar emergencies. Medication-assisted treatment means using medicines approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat opioid abuse. Opioid means any drug, including heroin, that is addictive like morphine or can be turned into a similarly addictive drug. Schedule II, III, or IV controlled substance means a drug listed on schedules II–IV in section 812(c) of title 21. Drug and device have the meanings in section 321 of title 21. Criminal justice agency means State, local, or tribal courts, prisons, jails, law enforcement, or other agencies that run criminal justice work like prosecution, pretrial services, and supervision. Tribal organization has the meaning in section 5304 of title 25. State substance abuse agency has the meaning in section 290bb–1(r)(6) of title 42.
