The Attorney General must work with the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Director of the National Institute of Corrections to write and share guidelines on preventing, finding, treating, and doing follow-up care for tuberculosis in people held in prisons, jails, and Immigration and Naturalization Service holding facilities. The Attorney General must make sure Federal prisons and INS holding facilities follow those guidelines. The Attorney General must also give grants to State, Indian tribal, and local correction and public health authorities to help run TB programs. The federal share of each grant cannot be more than 50 percent. Authorized funding: $700,000 for FY1996; $1,000,000 for FY1997; $1,000,000 for FY1998; $1,100,000 for FY1999; $1,200,000 for FY2000. Definitions: "Indian tribe" = an American Indian or Alaska Native group the U.S. recognizes for special programs; "State" = a State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
