Summary

The Attorney General must set up at least 50 new Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) projects in communities around the country, in addition to those already funded. Communities will be picked because of local gang activity. Each project must get at least $800,000 if money is available. Half of each project’s money goes to the State and local law enforcement and prevention groups involved. The other half goes to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) for staff, expenses, and running the projects. Congress authorized $20,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 to carry out these projects.
