Defines two terms used in this part. "National crime information databases" means the National Crime Information Center and the criminal-history databases it includes, such as the Interstate Identification Index. "Protection order" means an injunction or other court order to stop violence, threats, harassment, contact, or being near someone. It covers temporary and final civil or criminal orders (but not support or child custody orders) and counts only if a complaint, petition, or motion was filed by or for the person needing protection, whether as a separate case or as a temporary order during another case.
