Summary

The Bureau of Justice Assistance can give grants to law enforcement to fight the sexual abuse of children; agencies in areas with 50,000 or more people qualify, and smaller agencies can qualify if they show they need the help. Grants can pay to hire or train staff for outreach, investigations, enforcing sex‑offender rules, and managing released offenders; to investigate online child sexual abuse; and to buy computers, software, and database access to track offenders and run sex‑offender registries. The Attorney General must give priority to agencies that show need, and money was allowed as needed for fiscal years 2007 through 2009.
