A head of a federal agency can nominate one of their federal law enforcement officers for a Federal Law Enforcement Badge if the officer showed bravery. That can be an officer who was physically hurt while doing lawful duties and was put at personal risk, as the agency head says, or an officer who was not hurt but did something the agency head calls brave that put them at risk of serious injury or death. The nomination must include a written narrative (no more than 2 pages) and the nominee’s full name, home mailing address, agency, job title and grade or rank, field office address on the date of the act, and years of government service as of that date. The agency head must send the nomination to the Office by February 15 of the year after the act.
