Title 34 › Subtitle Subtitle VI— - Other Crime Control and Law Enforcement Matters › Chapter CHAPTER 605— - RECIDIVISM PREVENTION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - NEW AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE OFFENDER REENTRY SERVICES › § 60511
The Attorney General must give grants to states, local governments, territories, nonprofit groups, and Indian Tribes to run career training programs for prisoners and people reentering the community. Grants can pay for training and subsidized jobs, including programs that prepare people during the three years before release and help them after they return to the community. Applications get higher priority if they check local job demand, make individual reentry career plans, connect with local employers, and track employment results. Grantees must limit prisoner internet access when needed for public safety and must send the Attorney General a yearly report by the last day of each fiscal year describing how the grant money was used. Congress authorized $10,000,000 for each fiscal year 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
