Requires the organization to be guided by loyalty to the United States, being true to the Constitution and federal laws, protecting civil liberty, and preserving free institutions. Its goals are educational, fraternal, historical, and patriotic to keep alive liberty and justice. It lists 10 purposes, including honoring national patriotic holidays; supporting loyalty to the Government and the Constitution; building comradeship; helping needy members and their families; providing hospital and service work through Department of Veterans Affairs–certified service officers; working with other civic groups; remembering the founders and General George Washington and the Purple Heart (origin August 7, 1782); teaching about American citizenship and heritage; and defending the United States.
