The corporation must have an agent in the District of Columbia and file that agent’s name with the clerk of the U.S. District Court in D.C. Giving papers to that agent or mailing them to the agent’s business address counts as notice to the corporation. The corporation must also file an agent’s name and address with the secretary of state (or a similar official) in each State, territory, or possession where it does business.
