The Secretary of the Interior must set up a program called the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemoration. The Secretary must make and share education materials (like handbooks, maps, guides, and online info), make agreements to give technical help, help protect Revolution-related places and objects, improve teamwork and communication among National Park Service units tied to the Revolutionary War, expand research for teaching and interpretation, and create an official symbol called “Lighting Freedom’s Flame: American Revolution, 225th Anniversary” with rules for its use. The program covers National Park Service units about the Revolution, other government or private sites and programs directly related to the Revolution, and the participation of the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Canada through the Secretary of State. The Secretary may enter cooperative agreements and provide technical help to federal agencies, states, local governments, private groups, and, with the Secretary of State, those foreign governments. Congress authorized $500,000 for each fiscal year 2004 through 2009 to carry out the program.
