Title 36 › Subtitle Subtitle I— - Patriotic and National Observances and Ceremonies › Part Part B— - United States Government Organizations Involved With Observances and Ceremonies › Chapter CHAPTER 21— - AMERICAN BATTLE MONUMENTS COMMISSION › § 2108
After the United States and the Philippines make an agreement, the American Battle Monuments Commission will restore, run, and care for the Pacific War Memorial and other historic sites on Corregidor. The Commission may hire the staff it needs. Other U.S. government parts can help if they are paid back. The Commission can raise private donations and must put those donations into a special Treasury fund. The Commission will use private money first unless Congress provides money under the next paragraph. The Treasury fund is only for this work. The Commission’s chairman will put donations into the fund. The Treasury will credit interest and earnings. Money not needed for current costs can be invested in U.S. government bonds chosen by the chairman. Any extra money beyond the chairman’s determined costs will go back to the Treasury to repay amounts Congress paid. Congress may provide $6,000,000 for site work, design, planning, construction, and related administrative costs, and whatever else is needed to operate and maintain the sites.
