The board of trustees runs the corporation between member meetings. It sets overall policy and controls all funds. The bylaws decide how many trustees there are, how they are chosen, how vacancies are filled, and how long they serve, but the board must have at least 18 members. The board can create committees and give them powers, even the same powers as the board. Officers include a president, one or more vice presidents (as the bylaws allow), a secretary, a treasurer, and any other officers the bylaws set; their election, terms, and duties follow the bylaws. The board of trustees must appoint a nominations board of at least 24 members drawn from corporation members who are not also trustees. The nominations board must pick and recommend U.S. citizens or residents to be honored, following the bylaws.
