Title 37 › Chapter CHAPTER 5— - SPECIAL AND INCENTIVE PAYS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - EXISTING SPECIAL PAY, INCENTIVE PAY, AND BONUS AUTHORITIES › § 302l
Pays a cash bonus to a dentist who graduated from an accredited dental school in a wartime specialty the military calls "critically short," if that person signs a written deal to accept a commission and serve on active duty for at least four consecutive years. The military Secretary decides the bonus amount when the Secretary accepts the agreement, but the bonus cannot be more than $400,000. A person cannot get the bonus if they received Department of Defense financial help to study dentistry or if the Secretary finds they are not qualified to be and stay certified in that specialty. The signed agreement must say the person will serve as a Dental Corps officer in the Army or Navy or as a dental officer in the Air Force in that specialty. If the person is not commissioned, does not become licensed, or does not finish the agreed service, they must repay the bonus under section 303a(e). A person who could use this authority or the one in section 302h must choose one and cannot use both. No new agreements may be made after December 31, 2018.
