Pays special pay to a service member who completes required board certification or recertification after returning from contingency duty, if the Secretary of Defense decides the duty kept them from finishing it earlier. The pay covers active duty time from the start of the contingency assignment until the certification date. It applies to medical and dental officers and nonphysician health care providers who finished residency and were otherwise eligible. Members have 180 days after release; the Secretary may extend that time.
