Title 37 › Chapter CHAPTER 8— - TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS › § 462
A member of the uniformed services or another person who got travel and transportation payments under subchapter I must pay back any money that was not allowed or that was more than the allowed amount, unless rules say an exception applies. Rules made under section 464 explain when someone can be excused from repaying. Money owed under this rule is a debt to the United States. A bankruptcy discharge does not cancel that debt if the discharge order is entered less than five years after the debt began.
