The Secretary must pay a monthly pension to the surviving spouse of an Indian War veteran who met the service rules in section 1511. The amount is $40.64 per month if the spouse is under 70, or $70 per month if the spouse is 70 or older. Add $8.13 per month for each child of the veteran. No pension is paid unless the surviving spouse was married to the veteran before March 4, 1917, or was married at least one year, or was married any time if a child was born of the marriage or born to them before the marriage.
