A person who already gets education benefits under this law can also have a covered preparatory course paid for. The program will pay either the course fee or whatever benefit money the person still has left, whichever is smaller. The number of benefit months used is pro-rated based on the course fee compared to the monthly rate. The monthly rate is $2,042 for the academic year starting August 1, 2020, and each later year is the prior year’s rate increased by the most recent percentage increase under section 3015(h). Covered preparatory course: a course to prepare for a required or used licensing or certification test for a specific job or profession that the State approving agency has approved.
