The Secretary, using the Bureau of Labor Statistics, must do a yearly study of unemployment for seven groups of veterans: Guard or Reserve members called to active duty; veterans who fought or served in a war zone in the Post 9/11 theaters and other veterans who served on active duty during the Post 9/11 period but not in those theaters; Vietnam‑era veterans who served in Vietnam and those who served during that era but not in Vietnam; veterans discharged or released from active duty within four years of the study; and special disabled veterans. The study must also include a separate category for women in each group, and the results must be sent to Congress quickly. Post 9/11 Global Operations period: the time starting September 11, 2001 and ending on a later date set by the President or by law. Post 9/11 Global Operations theaters: Afghanistan, Iraq, or any place where the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal is given.
