Title 38 › Part PART V— - BOARDS, ADMINISTRATIONS, AND SERVICES › Chapter CHAPTER 74— - VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION—PERSONNEL › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION › § 7424
The Secretary can pay travel and other expenses (but not membership fees) for people named in sections 7306 and 7401(1), including some temporary or part‑time appointees under section 7405, when the Under Secretary for Health sends them to meetings of groups that promote medical and related science. The Secretary can also make rules letting VA officers and employees who are nationally recognized principal investigators accept cash or in‑kind payments from non‑Federal groups or people to cover travel and reasonable living costs approved under those rules. Those payments can be kept to pay the costs or must be returned to the VA fund, as the rules say.
